Why introduce Fall to preschoolers?
Fall is a popular preschool theme! I love reading books about the changes in the seasons and animals like squirrels that are fun to explore during the Fall. Kids are fascinated by the colors changing and acorns dropping. I love reading funny books and informative books about Fall as we introduce the theme and then doing simple activities.
This Fall sticker fine motor activity is quick to set up. Stickers are also an excellent tool to use to help kids build their fine motor skills!
Instructions for this Fall Sticker Activity for kids:
- Place a some dot stickers near your easel or papers that are stuck on the wall.
- Encourage kids to add some dot stickers to the papers to create their colorful leaves.
- Have kids count the dots as they decorate the leaves. They can also create patterns. You can also talk about the colors, designs, and directions to help build vocabulary while you do this sticker activity.

Why are stickers good for building fine motor skills?
- Peeling off stickers helps kids strengthen the small muscles in their hands and fingers, especially the pincer grip (thumb and index finger), which is really important for things like holding a pencil.
- Positioning and placing stickers onto their monster helps kids with hand-eye coordination as they carefully place the stickers where they want.
- Manipulating stickers in general also boosts bilateral coordination (Bilateral coordination is when both sides of the body work together to do something.) Kids will often use one hand to hold the sticker sheet while the other peels and places the stickers.
